How Mediapoint is combining automation and Canon Colorado M-series technology to scale trade manufacturing

Mediapoint is a Melbourne based, trade only print manufacturer celebrating 20 years in business. Co-founded by Jamie Xuereb and his brother Jason, the company works exclusively with print resellers across Australia and supports more than 1,000 trade customers through blind shipped manufacturing that sits seamlessly behind their brands.

To recognize the milestone, Canon Production Printing Australia presented Jamie with a commemorative trophy.

Mediapoint’s production spans wide format print, labels, display products and other trade manufacturing. But the company’s model is now as much about technology as it is about print, with automation embedded across quoting, ordering, artwork proofing, production and freight.

Automation at the Core
Mediapoint’s vision is to build Australia’s most automated trade manufacturing platform, delivering speed, consistency and scalability while simplifying the way customers quote, proof, order and track jobs online.

Every investment, whether in equipment, finishing systems or software, is evaluated against its ability to enhance productivity, improve reliability and strengthen the performance of the broader production environment. This commitment to automation enables Mediapoint to streamline operations, reduce manual touchpoints and maintain the efficiency required to support continued growth and exceptional customer service

Why Two Colorado M-series Printers?
As volumes grew, Mediapoint needed high productivity and repeatable quality with minimal operator intervention. The goal was to reduce production touchpoints and increase throughput without scaling labor at the same rate. Two Canon Colorado M-series systems provide both capacity and redundancy, allowing workloads to be balanced while service levels are maintained through peak demand or planned maintenance.

For Jamie Xuereb, the Colorado was more than a print engine purchase: “It became another building block in creating a highly efficient manufacturing environment.”

New Value Through White and Texture
Beyond high-volume work, the M-series creates a pathway into higher value applications. White ink opens opportunities on clear, colored and metallic materials, including layered window graphics, day and night applications, decals, labels, retail graphics and packaging prototypes.

Mediapoint is also exploring raised patterns, highlighted design elements and simulated embossing. These tactile finishes can help its reseller customers offer products that are more distinctive, premium and difficult to compare purely on price.

Performance That Keeps the Factory Moving
The biggest operational gain is how quickly printed work moves into finishing. Mediapoint can produce a 50 meter roll in around 100 minutes to two hours, with UVgel ready for the next stage immediately, without drying or outgassing delays. The dual-roll media system reduces loading time and operator intervention. Keeping commonly used stocks ready helps create a smoother, more predictable flow and better utilization of both print and finishing resources.

Matte and gloss finishes can also be selected through the print process, giving customers different visual results without always changing media or adding another finishing step.

 A Partnership Built on Uptime
Mediapoint describes its experience with Canon Production Printing Australia as consultative and responsive, from equipment selection and installation through to training and ongoing technical support. For a high-volume trade manufacturer, rapid remote assistance and dependable onsite service are essential.

“Mediapoint demonstrates what can be achieved when advanced automation and UVgel technology are combined within a high-volume production environment. The two Colorado M-series printers deliver the productivity, consistency and reliability required for demanding trade applications, while creating new opportunities through innovative capabilities such as white ink and textured print effects. We are proud to support Mediapoint’s continued growth and success.” Steven Badger, Head of Sales & Professional Services, Canon Production Printing Australia

 Looking Forward
The company’s next phase is about combining high-volume production with a broader range of creative, higher-value products. By integrating equipment, workflow and automation, the business aims to expand its offer without unnecessary complexity or manual handling.

The long-term opportunity is a new generation of products for trade customers: faster to produce, more distinctive and easier to sell at a premium.

Looking ahead, Jamie Xuereb says Mediapoint remains focused on the same ambition: “Our long-term goal is to continue building a highly automated trade manufacturing business.”
